Once you have the destination you can break down the journey into smaller, manageable steps. Let’s use launching your own club night as an example. It might seem like a big goal but when you break it down into baby steps, it’s much more manageable. Remember, there are 52 weeks in year, so even if you did one task a week you’ll easily be able to manage 52 steps!
2026 Goal: Launch Your Own Club Night:
Step 1. Decide on the concept of the night. What makes it unique?
Step 2. Brainstorm an event name, check it’s available.
Step 3. Work with a graphic designer to create a logo and placeholders for your online profiles.
Step 4. Register the social media profiles and upload your ‘coming soon’ graphics.
Step 5. Create a marketing plan to share with potential venues. How will you sell tickets?
Step 6. Decide on the music policy and network with other DJs who might play or be involved.
Step 7. Need some budget to make your plans happen? Start saving or plan a fundraiser.
Step 8. Shortlist possible venues and contact your favourite options.
Step 9. Come to an agreement with the chosen venue and book the date.
Step 10. Book the DJs, VJs, photographers and videographers.
Step 11. Finalise the event artwork and promotional assets.
Step 12. Set up your ticket platform such as Eventbrite and launch an early-bird deal.
Step 13. Create a marketing campaign to build excitement about the event.
Step 14. Need extra promo? Hire some party hosts to sub-promote to a larger audience.
Step 15. Send a press release to event listing websites, blogs and magazines.
Step 16. Plan the logistics of the night, including who does what job.
Step 17. Keep up the promo with collaboration posts with all the artists involved.
Step 18. Reach out to important people, celebrities in your scene and VIPs to offer free entry.
Step 19. Launch your countdown campaign leading up to the event.
Step 20. Event Day: Follow your plans but be ready to adapt. Enjoy and document the night.
Top Tip: If you're on a tight budget we recommend using an online graphic design tool such as Canva to create your logo and promotional images.
With this example, you can see the bigger goal broken into 20 steps which can easily be done within three-six months of planning. Once you have the goal for the week break it down into even smaller steps. In our example, Step 1 could be broken down into the following smaller steps.

Week 1 Goal: Decide on the concept of the night. What makes it unique?
Step 1. Research other club nights in your scene. Who is doing what and what is their USP? Make a spreadsheet or list and write down what they do well and what could be improved on.
Step 2. Decide on a music policy and create a mixtape or playlist as a style guide for the venue.
Step 3. Who is your target audience? Try and imagine who your event will attract and who you want to party with.
Step 4. How big will you go? Decide on your first party, will it be a small private affair or a large warehouse party. It’s less financially risky to start small, but who are we to dampen your dreams!
Step 5. Create a moodpboard or description of your brand, it’s ethos, music styles, DJs, audience, and unique selling point.
If you’re highly motivated it would be possible to do all of these five steps within a single day, but you have a whole week at your disposal. You can even take the weekend off!
Top Tip For 2026: Find An Accountability Buddy
Want to increase your chances of success in 2026? The best way to stick to your plans is to find an accountability buddy or support network. This could be any trusted person you choose to share your plans with. Ask them to be your accountability buddy, all the need to do is be aware of your plans and check in with you on a weekly basis for an update. Having the knowledge that someone is checking your homework will encourage you to get things done. Think of them as a personal trainer for your DJ goals.
Setting goals and making big plans for growth in 2026 needn’t be difficult. Visualise the main goal and then break it down into actionable and easy to digest steps. With this method you’ll be surprised how far you can come in a short space of time. Don’t forget to share your progress with your accountability buddy.
